Meet Mother Amy
The Rev. Amy Underhill Lythgoe has been our rector since August 2022. She is grateful to be worshiping and serving with our community as we discern together how God is calling us to show up to love and serve one another and the world. Her favorite scripture passage is 1 John 4:7, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love comes from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” The commandment to love one another isn’t always easy, and it’s vital for our interconnected flourishing and success. She believes Albert Einstein got it right when he wrote, “If we want our species to survive, if we are to find meaning in life, if we want to save the world and every being that inhabits it, love is the one and only answer.”
Mother Amy joined us following service as the interim rector at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Lakewood, Colorado, and as the Associate Priest for Family Ministry at St. John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Boulder. She has also served as Middle School Chaplain at Denver’s St. Elizabeth K-8 Episcopal School, the youth minister at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Boulder, and as a contract chaplain at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood. She is a former member of the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Church in Colorado, having served as President, Vice-President, and Chaplain; is a member of the diocesan Disciplinary Committee; and serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors of TENS, The Episcopal Network for Stewardship. Prior to being called to ordained ministry, Mother Amy worked in healthcare education and non-profit development. She received her B.A. from The College of William & Mary in Virginia, her Master of Divinity with Distinction from The Iliff School of Theology at the University of Denver, and holds certificates in Pastoral Theology and Care, Mental Health First Aid, Conflict Resolution, and Interim Ministry, among others.
Mother Amy and her husband Dennis value spending time with their blended family of six children, their spouses and partners, three grandchildren, and not nearly enough dogs. They also enjoy hiking, card games, road trips, and snacking. Her favorite holy one is Blessed Julian of Norwich with her reminder in Revelations of Divine Love that “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing(s) shall be well.”
